My grandmother’s father was from the area of Orebro, Sweden. This area is in the center of the country a few hours to the west of Stockholm. It was known for it’s copper mines when my ancestors lived there. My great great grandfather, Carl Johan Holm was born in Aspviken, Ljusnarsberg, Orebro, Sweden. We found this homestead and visited the largest town near to this area named Kopparsberg for the copper mines. The whole ore mining area is called Bergslagen.
Weekly, the people in the surrounding areas would make their way to Kopparsberg where the local church was. There are paths leading into the town to the church and old inns where people stayed over night on Saturday before church. They could get caught on the news as well as worship together and get filled up for the coming week.
